How to tie in your "Something Blue"

We’ve all heard the “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue…” saying at almost every wedding we’ve attended. It’s one of the longest running wedding traditions yet, we have no idea where it comes from. According to Reader’s Digest, the tradition comes from a Victorian-Era rhyme from Lancashire county in England. But why would we need these four items in particular? It’s simple, each item represents a different blessing for the bride and groom on their wedding day!

Something Old represents the long lasting future and future child for the couple. Something new represents optimism for the couple’s future. Something borrowed represents the borrowed blessings and happiness from another couple (a happy couple preferably). Lastly, something blue represents purity, love and fidelity; while also warding off the evil eye which at the time, would make the bride infertile.

While these ideas are very antiquated for our modern brides, we still can’t help but incorporate it in the wedding festivities, especially something blue. It can get a little difficult incorporating these details during the planning process, so we’ve made it easier to include the color blue on your special day!

Flowers - Flowers are one of the most important details of a wedding day. Whether you’re having large floral installations, centerpieces, etc. it’s easy to incorporate blue flowers as accent pieces that will give your flowers a pop of color!

Some popular blue wedding flowers include: Delphinium, Anemone, Hydrangea, Tweedia and Dyed Sweet Peas.

Table Accents - Table accents are also one of the easiest items you can incorporate with something blue! This can be: tablecloths, table numbers, vases, and your general glassware. Here are some ideas below.

Make it pop! Compliment any blue items with warm colors! This can be in gold, subtle peach or bold orange accents!
